03. Treatment

Tamponade constitutes a real emergency and fluid removal is initiated immediately, using echocardiography to guide pericardial puncture. Fluid removal can then be completed by surgical drainage.

Film 9 : In the same patient as in film 8, injection of a few milliliters of shaken physiological saline ensures that the puncture needle is positioned in the effusion. 
Film 10 : In the same patient, needle drainage of approximately 1200 ml enabled re-expansion  of the heart cavities.
